Blog Post - Before You Shop The Sales…

Are you noticing that the Black Friday deals have started early this year? I’m actually seeing a handful of businesses offering specials and discounts for the entire month of November.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good sale and there is nothing wrong with buying something on sale.

However, the tricky part is differentiating if you’re buying something you want and it happens to be on sale OR if you’re only buying something BECAUSE it’s on sale and it feels like a deal. Because if it’s the latter, you’re actually wasting your money.

Buying based on the price instead of based on your true desires comes from scarcity, and you’ll end up with things that are “ok” instead of “friggin amazing!” Then those pieces sit in your closet and never get worn because you actually never really wanted them!

So how do you navigate the sales?

It comes down to shopping with intention. I like to keep a list in the notes of my phone of everything I’d like to buy. Anytime I’m online shopping or out and about and see something I like, I add it to the list. This gives me space to sleep on it and decide if it’s really something I want. If I can’t stop thinking about it, then I usually know it’s a must buy.

Then when the sales come around, check your list and see if anything you want is a part of the sale! This is how you shop with intention instead of solely allowing the prices to direct your browsing.

If you don’t have a list, start now:) And in the meantime, ask yourself if there’s an area of your wardrobe that needs some refreshing… perhaps some new sweaters or pants or shoes. Then narrow it down even further to see if there are specific colors or styles within those categories. This is how you start your list to then shop with direction.

Direction and intention will allow you to select things (on sale) that you actually need in your wardrobe and will wear!

And remember, if you come across something that you need like a sweater that is an insanely good price yet you don’t love it, DON’T BUY IT! Focus on buying less and choosing only things that bring a smile to your face every time you put them on. That’s how you build a phenomenal wardrobe instead of a mediocre one.
