Blog Post - 5 Outfit Ideas For A BossBabe Photo Shoot

So you’ve decided that this year is THE YEAR that you’ll be visible. You’re committed to going all in on your business, putting yourself out there on social and email and taking a stand for your message and vision.

With this excitement you take the next step and schedule a branding photo shoot for updated images and video. Images that reflect the real you. You know in your heart it’s time.

Time to be seen.

You’re counting down the days until the shoot with that knowing in your heart this is the next step in your journey. Abruptly that excitement turns into dread when you realize you have NO IDEA WHAT TO WEAR! Is it too late to cancel the shoot?!

The last time you went shopping was in 2020 and your closet consists of 20% of pieces you love, 40% that’s ok and then 40% that you’re holding onto “just in case.” And the reality is you have no idea how to mix and match the 20% you love to create outfits you love. Are you nodding your head?

Girl, you’re not alone! I hear this from clients all the time!

While your outfits can absolutely enhance or derail from your photos, the last thing you need is to have added stress around your shoot. There’s enough nerves getting on camera!

In today’s post I’m sharing with you 5 outfit ideas for a bossbabe photo shoot. Let this inspire your next shoot as it gets to be fun and easy. And when you feel confident in your clothes and like the real you, that energy will be displayed in your photos. That is the secret sauce for creating magnetism.

I recently had my own branding shoot and am going to break down what I wore. Take this as inspiration, yet feel empowered to add your own style and flair.

#1 The Maxi Skirt

This is such an easy look to recreate! Take a flowy maxi skirt in either a print or solid and add your favorite graphic t-shirt. You can also wear a solid t-shirt yet I like the character of a graphic tee. Pair it with a bootie in a pop of color, add layers of necklaces, some medium size earrings, a stack of bracelets and rings and you’re set! This look feels kind of casual, so adding the jewelry is what elevates it to the next level.

#2 The Preppy Cardigan

I love the juxtaposition of this outfit! You have a super preppy cardigan worn over a bralette with cutoffs or jeans, a sparkly statement necklace and some super fancy heels as a color pop. It’s an interesting combination of neutral classy vibes with some fun and edge. You could even swap in a navy pencil skirt to dress up this look. The goal is for your outfit to be interesting and grab your audience as they are scrolling. Hence the color pop of the shoe.

#3 Print Mixing Your Mini Skirt

With this look you are playing with a dressier pattern skirt and a casual white tank top. It’s a bit unexpected, especially when you add a statement necklace and some print mixing with an animal print shoe. Animal print is essentially neutral, and safe for you to mix with any other print. In photos you want to be “doing” something instead of always standing there, so draping a jean jacket over your shoulder gives your hands something to do. I also love the movement of walking… you want variety in your poses!

#4 The Wrap Dress

Simplicity is the name of the game for these last two looks. A classic wrap dress looks good on EVERYONE and photographs beautifully. The wrap accentuates your waist and is really good for proportions in the photo. You can play with a print like mine or opt for solid. I love the clean look of a simple heel or slide in white. It looks fresh. With a v-neck you’ll definitely want to add layers of necklaces and finish off with some earrings and rings. With long sleeves, you don’t always have to add bracelets. With prints, make sure they don’t overwhelm you! You want to ensure the focus of the photo is still on you and your beautiful face.  What’s fun with skirts and dresses is that you can play with “throwing” the bottom of the skirt. This adds richness and action to the photo. I also love a good twirl photo:)

#5 The  Classic White Dress

With this look you can opt for a short dress like mine or a midi or maxi style if that’s more your vibe. Focus on a dress that has intrigue like the color pops of fabric and ruffles on mine. Again, you want to catch people’s eye as they are scrolling social or reading your emails! One of my favorite combinations with a white dress is a fabulous neutral wedge. It feels very summery and elevated. In this case I opted for statement earrings instead of a necklace. With jewelry, it’s best to focus on one statement piece per look. So if I went with some delicate layering necklaces, it would be fine to wear a medium size earring because the necklaces are not making a huge statement. In this case, the earrings were enough! For a pose idea, it helps to to put your hand on something like a wall or even lean your back into the wall. Again, anything out of the norm of just standing and posing!

Remember the key to a BossBabe photo shoot is you feeling comfortable and confident. Your clothing should reflect the true you and the woman you are stepping into.
